Behold the Fowls of the Air
Jesus called attention to the birds; they don’t plant or gather into barns, but God feeds them (Mt 6:26). I was reminded of this principle a few days ago. I had been eagerly anticipating picking ripe cherries from the cherry tree in the back yard. It looked very much like the picture below. It was loaded with cherries. The tree almost glowed red.
There had been a few birds picking at cherries as they ripened. I unwisely surmised that the birds were not going to have a significant impact on the cherry production. I was wrong. They were just testing the ripeness. I can affirm that on May 28 the cherries were at the peak of ripeness—for birds anyway. On that day God fed every bird in Nashville from the cherry tree in my back yard. They feasted.
Unfortunately, birds ignore the Levitical law about leaving gleanings. There was not a single cherry remaining on the tree or the ground. I know why they are called fowl. I will be getting a net for the peach, pear, and apple trees.
The good new is that if God can so easily provide for the birds, He can take care of our needs as well. Are you not much better than they? (Matt. 6:26).

Danny,
Good story and illustration. After seeing your tree barren I thought you might switch over to Exodus and talk about how God fed the people with quail from the sky. All you needed was a BB gun…and well….never mind

Quail is tasty. I’m not sure that fried Robin, Blue Jay, or Grackle would be as appetizing.

Thanks for sharing that. I’ve been struggling lately with so many things.
I have a bad habit of worrying about things that I have no control over. I’m working on that. It’s hard but I’m trying.
