As the children of Israel were preparing to cross over the Jordan River into the Promised Land, Joshua told them to follow the Ark of the Covenant since, “You have not passed this way before.”

It is appropriate to consider this Scripture at this time. We have a brand new year ahead of us and we have never passed this way before. We do not know what is ahead. There will be some dangers and there will be some blessings. Often it is difficult to distinguish which is which. That is why we must do as the children of Israel and follow God’s leading.

We do not follow a wooden box overlaid with gold, we have something of far greater value–we have the inspired Word of God and the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit. We walk not by sight, but by faith.

Where will God lead us this year? Only He knows. But wherever He leads, we have the assurance that He is with us and we are exactly where He wants us to be. It does not matter if we have not been this way before, we are walking with One who knows where He is going. Will you go with Him?
