Somebody Should Do Something

August 14th, 2007 by Danny

Ok, we see the need. Now what? How often have you heard or thought, “Somebody should do something about that”?

This is the second lesson we can learn from David’s mighty men: The choice to act involves risk. Those three mighty men were safe in the cave there with all the other soldiers. No one expected them to take on the whole Philistine army.

But great people don’t usually stay where it is safe. They take risks, not necessarily foolish risks but they are not content to just stay with the crowd. They choose to act. They don’t just sit around and wish, “someone should do something.” Often their action is what generates the reputation of being a mighty hero.

The easiest thing to do is go with the flow–just follow along with the crowd. But these men had such devotion for their king they risked their lives to honor him. This was not something they would have done for themselves, but they would gladly do it for their king. As a result they won a great victory.
